PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) men's soccer team (4-3-1, 3-1-1 CACC) dropped a Tuesday afternoon conference road contest at Georgian Court (8-1-0, 5-0-0 CACC) by a final of 4-1 in Lakewood, N.J.
A goal by the Rams late in the second half got the squad back within one but the Georgian Court Lions, who are receiving votes in this week's national poll, pulled away with a pair of goals in the final five minutes.
Georgian Court scored two early first-half goals in the 5th and 19th minutes to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
The Rams led shots in the first half, 10-8, with half of them coming on goal. Jefferson also had four corner opportunities in the opening 45 minutes.
Jefferson responded with their first and only goal in the 80th minute from junior transfer Ben Cochran, his first of the year. Senior Jason Rocha played the free kick which Cochran headed on target for the goal, 2-1.
The Lions though scored two more goals over the final five minutes of play in the 86th and 89th minutes to win by the 4-1 final.
Shots were even after 90 minutes, 16-16, with Jefferson only managing two shots on goal in the second half.
Junior goalkeeper Kris Donaldson (L, 1-1-0) made seven saves on the afternoon with 15 total shots faced.
Jefferson returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 29 on the road at Bloomfield. Action begins at 3:30 p.m.
