PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) men's soccer team (8-7-2) topped the Molloy Lions (2-15) on a wet Saturday afternoon from Ravenhill Field in double overtime by a final of 3-2.
Molloy grabbed the early lead in the contest, scoring in the 6th minute of action. Zuberi Symister converted a header at the near post for the Lions to put them up 1-0.
The first half went scoreless after that as Jefferson only had three shots in the opening 45 minutes.
Jefferson got on the board in the 48th minute when junior Rashaan Robe made a quick pass to junior Hunter Dyson in the box. Dyson delayed his shot for a bit to get an angle on the goalkeeper before tying the game, 1-1.
Molloy regained the lead after Oscar Magnusson scored directly off a corner kick in the 83rd minute. Jefferson responded three minutes later as Robe scored his own goal after Rocha served up a cross from the goal line.
With time winding down, neither team could find the go-ahead goal in the final four minutes as the nonconference affair went to overtime.
After two shots apiece in the first overtime period, Jefferson looked more determined in the second overtime period. In the 102nd minute, junior transfer Sebastian Durand scored the game winner on an assist by fellow junior transfer Charlie Livesey.
The win moves the Rams to 8-7-2 on the year.
Junior goalkeeper Kris Donaldson (W, 5-5-1) made five saves on the day in the victory.
Molloy led shots, 19-15, and corners, 10-5.
Jefferson Men's Soccer earned the No. 4 seed in the CACC Tournament and will host No. 5-seeded Concordia on Tuesday, Oct. 30 from Ravenhill Field at 2 p.m.
