PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) men's soccer team (0-3-1) played to a 2-2 tie against visiting East Stroudsburg (2-0-2) on Saturday.
The first half was an even affair as neither team was able to find the back of the net. The Warriors had a 6-4 edge in shots but the Rams led 3-1 in corner kicks. Jefferson finally broke the ice at the 61-minute mark when senior Charlie Livesey found junior Val Mokrejs on a corner kick. Mokrejs headed the ball into the left side.
The Rams made it 2-0 in the 70th minute when Livesey sent a ball ahead to junior Theophilus Ijeboi, who deposited a shot underneath a sliding goalkeeper. East Stroudsburg got on the board in the 79th minute on a set piece off a corner kick. The Warriors continued to pressure down the stretch and tallied the equalizer with 52 seconds left in regulation.
In overtime, East Stroudsburg got the better of Jefferson in the opening 10 minutes, outshooting the Rams 3-0, but were unable to put in the game-winner. The Rams totaled two shots compared to one for the Warriors in the second overtime period but the contest ended in a draw.
- In his first start of the season, senior Stephen Paul made nine saves for the Rams.
- It was Jefferson's first tie at Ravenhill Field since a 2-2 draw with Goldey-Beacom on October 3, 2017.
The Rams begin conference play at Post on Saturday, September 21 at 3 p.m.
