DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) men's soccer team (0-5-1) played its second ranked opponent of the season on Wednesday, dropping a 3-0 decision to ninth-ranked Mercy (6-0-1).
The Mavericks had the better of play in the first half, outshooting the Rams 9-3. Mercy got on the board in the 16th minute with a penalty kick. The Mavericks increased their lead to 2-0 with a shot off a rebound in the 34th minute.
Jefferson had more opportunities in the second stanza, winning the shot count 7-6, including one off of the left post. The Rams also had two corner kicks in the period. However, they could not find the back of the net. Mercy added an insurance goal in the 81st minute off of a corner kick.
- Senior Stephen Paul made eight saves in the Jefferson goal.
- The all-time series between the Rams and Mavericks is now even at 4-4-1.
The Rams return home for a conference contest with Concordia (N.Y.) on Saturday, September 28 at 2:30 p.m.
