PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University men's soccer team (5-7-1, 5-3-0 CACC) persevered through rainy conditions to defeat first-place Goldey-Beacom (10-5, 7-2 CACC), 3-1 at Ravenhill Field on Tuesday.
Junior Gus Ward got the Rams on the board in just the third minute, finding the right side of the goal after a pass from sophomore Nick Brown. The Lightning buried the equalizer just seven minutes later on a cross from the left side.
Senior Hunter Dyson put Jefferson back in front in the 24th minute. He followed up a shot by Ward that was blocked in the box. The score was 2-1 heading into the intermission. The Rams held a 7-5 shot advantage in the period.
Goldey-Beacom pressured Jefferson throughout the second half, outshooting the Rams, 8-6, and recording eight corner kicks. However, the Jefferson defense stood tall, including senior goalkeeper Stephen Paul who finished with five saves.
- It was the third straight home win for the Rams.
- Jefferson's last win over the Lightning was on October 11, 2016.
- It was the fifth time this season that the Rams had more shots on goal than their opponent. They are 5-0 in those games.
The Rams begin a three-game road trip on Saturday, October 26 when they take on Felician at 8 p.m.
