Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University Rams men's tennis team starts off the season early this year with a 2/27 match against University of the District of Columbia.  The Rams are coming back from an outstanding season in 2009 winning the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship (CACC) while also earning a six slot at the NCAA East Regional Tournament.  Last year's overall record was 18-8, going a perfect 10-0 in conference.

With a new head coach, Charles "Cha" Goods, goals include another successful CACC run and NCAA Regional Tournament appearance.

"We have big plans, but want to focus on the details to achieve our goals," said Goods.

The Rams are returning key players including junior captain Tom McAvoy who went 16-9 in singles and 16-8 doubles last year.  Returning #1 singles player Adrian Torroella-Cruz, the CACC ‘Player and Rookie of the Year', (19-3 in singles and 16-7 doubles).  Anticipated #5 spot, Eric Guerrero also returns with an 8-11 singles record and 12-10 doubles.

Key newcomer Kyle Burke will be competing with Torroella-Cruz for the number one singles spot on the team, he is a rookie to watch.

"All the guys are excited and looking to be that one impact player," says Goods.

Goods served as volunteer coach from spring to fall 2009.  Upon retirement Coach Marty Gilbert highly recommended Goods as the next head coach.

The team looks to have another outstanding season in Goods head coaching debut.  Stay tuned to for the latest PhilaU men's tennis updates.
