Rams outlast visiting Dowling for 5-4 victory

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Philadelphia University men's tennis team fought its way to a 5-4 victory over visiting Dowling in a non-conference match Tuesday afternoon at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center.

No. 2 singles player Manoli Sgouros secured Rams' (8-10) victory by winning a three-set match against Francesc Terns, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.

No. 3 Kyle Burke and No. 6 Nail Rachidi earned points for Philadelphia with straight set wins. Burke defeated Francisco Del Castillo, 6-3, 6-1. Rachidi was a 6-4, 6-1 winner against Michael Sinclair.

Philadelphia started out the match with victories in the No. 1 and No. 2 flights. The No. 1 team of Adrian Torroella-Cruz and Sgouros were 8-5 winners against Viktor Kim and Terns. Ryan Christopher and Burke were victorious against Sinclair and Del Castillo in the No. 2 match, 8-2.

Philadelphia returns to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play to take on host Chestnut Hill in a battle for second place in the conference Wednesday, April 11at 3:30 p.m.
