CALDWELL, N.J. – The Philadelphia University men's tennis team opened Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with a 6-3 victory over host Caldwell on Saturday afternoon.
Philadelphia (4-8, 1-0 CACC) picked up its first point of the match when the No. 3 doubles tandem of James Pollard (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) and Sean DeBlasio (Livingston, Texas/Livingston) defeated the duo of Andrej Bozovic and Pedro Vizcaino, 6-2, 6-1. The victory evens their record at 4-4.
In singles play, the Rams were nearly flawless as they earned wins in five of the six matches.
Jacobo Atri (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Hebreo Monte Sinai, AC) picked up his team-leading eighth victory over the season as he Lucas Bottari 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 4 singles match. Pollard moved his record to 6-5 with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph in the No. 6 flight against Vizcaino.
Celso de Vera Rehberger (Oviedo, Spain/Santa Maria del Naranco) edged out Max Ziegler for a tough 7-, 7-5 victory in a battle of No. 1s. In the No. 2 match, Luis Molina Megias (Gran Canaria, Spain/Atlantic School Garoe) posted his second straight win, defeating Bozovic 6-0, 6-1. Vincent Breer (Heidelberg, Germany/English Institut Heidelberg) was a winner at No. 3, knocking off Alberto Gasco 6-4, 6-3.
Breer, de Vera Rehberger, and Molina Megias all now have four wins.
Philadelphia heads to Chestnut Hill for a CACC match on Wednesday, April 6 at 3 p.m.
