Men’s tennis wins third straight match, defeats Cabrini 9-0

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University men's tennis team defeated visiting Cabrini University 9-0 on the Abraham Salaman Tennis Courts Tuesday afternoon to pick up its third straight victory.

Philadelphia's No. 1 tandem of Sean DeBlasio (Livingston, Texas/Livingston) and Jacobo Atri (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Hebreo Monte Sinai, AC) earned an 8-2 victory over Alijah Broadnax and Sean Jaeger. James Pollard (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) and Juan Velosa (Bogota, Colombia/Gimnasio Campestre San Rafael) were 8-3 victors in the No. 2 flight against Matthew DeMaria and Charles LaMantia. The No. 3 duo of Christopher Machuzak (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) and Ryan Schaffer (Audubon, N.J./Audubon) recorded an 8-0 sweep of Nick Tilley and Nick Scaramuzza.

All three doubles teams were playing together for the first time this season.

Playing in his first match at No. 1 this season, Atri defeated Broadnax 6-2, 6-4. Joseph Sison (Yardley, Pa./Notre Dame) notched his second consecutive victory, beating Jaeger 6-1, 6-1. Velosa ran his winning streak to three after posting a 6-2, 6-0 triumph against LaMantia.

Pollard won in his first match at No. 4 singles as he was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over DeMaria. Cesar Solis claimed his second win of the season with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Tilley in the No. 5 flight.

Seeing his first singles action of the season, Schaffer earned the win at No. 6, 6-0, 6-1 against Scaramuzza.

Philadelphia travels to the University of the Sciences for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match on Wednesday, April 5 at 2 p.m.
