Men’s Cross Country Finishes Up at Saturday’s NCAA DII East Region Championships


AMHERST, N.Y. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) men's cross country team took 11th place of 23 team at Saturday's 2017 NCAA DII East Region Cross Country Championships from Audubon Golf Course in Amherst, N.Y. The 10-kilometer race is held to determine the region's three national championship-qualifying teams, as well as three national championship-qualifying individuals.

The Rams finished with a total time of 3:01.28 for an average time of 36:17 in the 10-kilometer event.

Graduate transfer Milan Duka came in 12th overall of 159 runners. Duka finished the 10-kilometer in wet and muddy conditions with a time of 34:03.1 for a 5:28.8 mile pace. He was the highest finisher ever at the meet for a Philadelphia University/Jefferson runner since the school added the cross country program in 2005. Duka missed making the NCAA national championships by about 25 second behind the last individual qualifier. The previous highest program finish was Tim Malloy (19th) and Eric Lacey (20th) in the 2013 East Region in Boston.

Junior Sergei Cendo crossed the finish with a time of 35:59.9 for a pace of 5:47.6 for 55th place overall. Freshman Ben Nardi finished closely behind in 57th place at 36:07.6 for a pace of 5:48.8.

Junior Ethan Fadale took 80th place at 36:47.1 (5:55.2 pace) while fellow junior Valmar Wilson finished in 104th place with a time of 38:30.3 (6:11.8 pace).

Senior Jake Wong and sophomore Greg Dawson rounded out the Rams with times of 39:06.7 (6:17.6) and 40:13.5 (6:28.4) for 120th and 135th place, respectively.
