Softball Wins 4th Straight With Sweep At Chestnut Hill 8-2, 5-1

Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University softball team (16-13, 8-6 CACC) extended their winning streak to four with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) sweep of the Chestnut Hill College Griffins (4-24, 1-11 CACC) on Thursday afternoon.  The Lady Rams won game one 8-2 and the second game 5-1, as freshman pitcher Ali Schmidt (Cordova, MD/ Easton) pitched two complete games and notched 19 strikeouts in the process. 

In game one, freshman third baseman Danielle Parisi (Teaneck, NJ/ W.Windsor-Plainsboro N.) racked up four RBI's as she went 1-4 at the plate, singling in two runs in the first inning through the left side.  CHC scored an unearned run in the inning to make it 2-1.

The second inning featured two more PhilaU runs- as freshman catcher Katie Renner (Berryville, VA/ Brunswick) smacked a double up the middle and junior first baseman Kelly Rauco (Nutley, NJ/ Nutley) followed suit with an RBI double.  Parisi hit a sacrifice fly to right field to give PhilaU a 4-1 edge. 

The Griffins added their final run in the bottom of the fourth inning with an RBI single, but PhilaU added four more scores as junior outfield Kristyn Loughery (Phoenixville, PA/ Phoenixville)tripled to right for an RBI in the sixth and scored on a passed ball and sophomore outfield Jen Richard (Millstone Twp., NJ/ Allentown) scored on a fielder's choice.  In the seventh, Renner blasted her second homer of the year to make the final PhilaU 8, CHC 2.

In game two, both teams were locked in stalemate until PhilaU broke the game open in the fifth inning as Rauco hit a two-run double bagger, and Richard tripled to right field to bring in another run.  Parisi singled in another run to make it 4-0 on five hits. 

PhilaU designated hitter junior Kristin Giamatteo (Bellmore, NY/Wellington Mepham) smacked a double to left field to score the Lady Ram's final run of the game, but CHC mounted a short rally in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double- yet Schmidt struck out the final Griffin batter to secure the 5-1 victory. 

PhilaU returns to action on Saturday (4/11) to host Post University at 1:00 p.m. at Bucky Harris Field.
