On the Diamond, Rams Split with Goldey-Beacom

Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University softball team (8-12, 2-8 CACC) split a pair of games against the Goldey-Beacom Lightning (11-7, 4-4 CACC) on Wednesday afternoon.  GBC won the first 6-5, while PhilaU run-ruled the Lightning 12-4 in the nightcap in five innings.

On the day, freshman hurler Ally Vrcek took the game two win, while junior hurler Ali Schmidt lost the first contest. 

In the 6-5 loss, the Rams were tied 5-5 going into the seventh inning on a solo homer by junior infielder Katie Renner, but GBC came back to score the wining run in the top of the final frame on an RBI single by Michelle Foster to take the eventual 6-5 win.  In the contest, PhilaU pitcher  Schmidt threw the complete game with 11 strikeouts and four earned runs.  GBC's Heather Draper picked up the win with four strikeouts and one earned run.

In game two's 12-4 five inning mercy rule win for the Rams, PhilaU banged out 11 hits (to GBC's four).  The home squad built an impressive 6-1 lead over the first two innings, with help from a two RBI double from freshman infielder Samantha Riabko and a three-run triple from junior infielder Danielle Parisi.  Parisi went 3-7 on the day with five RBIs (and two three-baggers) to lead PhilaU.  Home pitcher Vrcek went three innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs. 

The Rams continue home schedule tomorrow (4/7) in a CACC double-header against the Chestnut Hill College Griffins, slated for a 2:30 p.m. start.
