Lady Rams suffer doubleheader sweep by Georgian Court

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Philadelphia University softball team was defeated twice in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader by host Georgian Court Wednesday afternoon. The game scores were 15-4 and 11-2, both in five innings.

In game one, the Lady Rams (8-23, 6-12 CACC) scored all four runs in the top of the second inning to grab a 4-0 lead. Philadelphia had just one hit in the frame, but it was a big hit as first baseman Alexandra Hultberg connected for a three-run homer, her first of the year.

The Lions (26-15, 14-4 CACC) exploded as they score the next 15 runs, including eight in the second and five in the fourth. Second baseman Rachel Ruch hit a grand slam and left fielder Alyssa Paradiso recorded a two-run triple in the second.

Shortstop Kacie DeMaio, pitcher Nicole Troisi and Hultberg had the three hits for Philadelphia.

Ruch led the Lions' 16-hit attack with three hits and five RBI. Center fielder Dana Schroeder also recorded three hits and scored three times.

Georgian Court's Brooke Hull was the winning pitcher, striking out one in five innings. Troisi took the loss, fanning two and allowing 12 runs on 13 hits in three innings.

Second baseman Meaghan Lewis hit her fourth homer of the year, a two-run shot, in the first inning of game two to give Philadelphia a 2-0 lead.

Georgian Court answered with eight runs in the third, including a two-run triple by Paradiso and a two-run single from right fielder Selina Santillo. The Lions tacked on three more runs in the fourth.

Left fielder Emma Haley, Lewis and DeMaio each had one hit for Philadelphia. Georgian Court shortstop Ashlynn Thompson, Ruch and Paradiso all hit safely twice.

Hull earned her second win of the day after throwing four innings of three-hit softball. She struck out one in game two.

Samantha Abromavage was the losing pitcher, striking out two in four innings.

Philadelphia returns to action Thursday, April 12 with a non-conference doubleheader at East Stroudsburg starting at 2:30 p.m.
