Softball Drops Pair on Sunday to Wayne State, Mercy in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) softball team continued day two of their weeklong stay in Florida on Sunday. The Rams fell to Wayne State, 13-3, before dropping a contest later to Mercy, 10-2.

SUNDAY GAME ONE – Wayne State 13, Jefferson 3 (5)
Jefferson dropped the first game on Sunday to Wayne State (Mich.). Wayne State scored four runs in the bottom of the first before the Rams added one in the top of the second. Breck Urban singled to start the inning before advancing to second on a passed ball. Katy Sullivan then singled through the right side to bring Urban home.

Kayla Henry-Caltabellotta singled Urban in during the fourth to score the Rams' second run of the day. Urban then grounded out in the fifth to score Madison Heno, who came into the game to pinch run.

In addition to their four runs in the first, Wayne State scored one run in the second, three runs in the third and five runs in the fourth.

Katelyn Stys (L, 0-1) started the game for the Rams. Jefferson managed eight hits in the loss including Jovanna Alfonsi who notched the lone multi-hit game for the Rams.

SUNDAY GAME TWO – Mercy 10, Jefferson 2 (5)
Jefferson dropped the second game in five innings as well. The Rams scored two runs in the bottom of the first. Mercy would add nine runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to run-rule Jefferson. Emily Bradley (L, 1-1) took the loss. Jovanna Alfonsi and Stephanie Pepper knocked the only two hits.

The Rams have a day off in Florida on Monday. Jefferson then plays Lock Haven before Minn.-Crookston on Tuesday, March 13.
