Softball Drops Wednesday Florida Games to Slippery Rock, Kutztown

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) softball team dropped a pair of games on Wednesday to PSAC schools Slippery Rock, 9-0, and Kutztown, 2-0, in Clermont, Fla. in the second-to-last day of the team's Florida spring break trip.

WEDNESDAY GAME ONE – Slippery Rock 9, Jefferson 0 (5 innings)
Jefferson dropped the first game on Wednesday by a final of 9-0 to PSAC school Slippery Rock. Katy Sullivan and Jovanna Alfonsi managed the lone two Jefferson hits in the fifth inning of the game. Sullivan started the fifth with a single before Alfonsi moved her over to second on the team's second base hit.

Slippery Rock scored three in the second before a two-run single in the fourth. A four-run fifth helped Slippery Rock run-rule the Rams.

Katelyn Stys took the loss, lasting 3.2 innings while giving up five runs, all earned. Emily Bradley pitched the final 1.1 innings in relief, giving up four unearned runs.

WEDNESDAY GAME TWO – Kutztown 2, Jefferson 0
Jefferson also lost a close game with PSAC school Kutztown in the afternoon, 2-0.

Madison Heno singled to start the game in the top of the first but the Rams would not get another hit until Breck Urban notched a single through the right side in the seventh.

Kutztown benefitted from an RBI triple in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Naomi Stas (L, 2-2) then only allowed four hits over the next four innings before the Golden Bears added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.

Jefferson Softball's time in Clermont, Fla. comes to a close on Thursday, March 15 with a pair of games against Bridgeport (1 p.m.) and Saint Michael's (3 p.m.).
