PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) softball team (16-20, 12-12 CACC) split a Wednesday doubleheader with the Holy Family Tigers (13-27, 12-12 CACC) as the two squads remain tied for seven place in the CACC standings.
Jefferson honored senior Erica D'Angelo who made her final two starts at home in the afternoon conference doubleheader.
WEDNESDAY GAME ONE – W, 7-1
Junior Stephanie Pepper (W, 10-7) pitched lights out on Wednesday in game one. The Toms River native took a perfect game into the fifth before allowing her first baserunner via a walk and did not allow a hit until the top of the sixth. Pepper struck out six in the complete game as she allowed one run in the seventh inning.
Jefferson went on top early in the contest thanks to Pepper helping herself out at the plate. With the bases loaded, Pepper doubled down the right field line to bring home two before another scored on a throw as the Rams took a 3-0 lead.
Freshman Taylor Maroon hit a two-run, two-out single in the fifth to put the Rams up seven, 7-0. A walk put two on with two outs in the inning but Jefferson could not complete the run-rule victory as the game continued.
Holy Family scored their first and only run with two outs in the seventh as Jefferson prevailed, 7-1.
WEDNESDAY GAME TWO – L, 7-0
Roles were reversed in game two as Holy Family held the Rams without a hit until the fourth inning.
The Tigers scored five runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth in the 7-0 victory.
Jefferson managed two hits in the sixth and another in the seventh but could not scrap a run together in the shutout loss.
With Thursday's games at Molloy cancelled, the Rams close out the regular season with a pair of road contests at Dominican on Saturday, April 28. Action begins at noon.
