Softball Grabs Regular-Season Finale Split with Dominican, Earns No. 8 CACC Seed

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) softball team (17-21, 13-13 CACC) ended its regular season by splitting a Sunday afternoon doubleheader on the road at Dominican (22-16, 16-8 CACC). The first game went 12 innings with the Rams coming on top, 6-4, while Jefferson dropped the second game in five innings, 8-0.

With a 13-13 conference mark, the Rams earned the No. 8 seed in the CACC Tournament, which will take place from May 3-5 on the campus of Georgian Court University in Lakewood, N.J.

SUNDAY GAME ONE – W, 6-4
Trailing 1-0, Jefferson scored a late seventh inning run to force the game into extras. Stephanie Pepper (W, 11-7) continued pitching past the seventh, throwing all 12.0 innings in a complete game effort with 11 strikeouts.

Emily Williams doubled to right field in the top of the ninth to bring home Madison Heno before a Charger single in the bottom half of the inning tied the affair once again, 2-2.

A fielder's choice brought home a Jefferson run in the top of the 11th but the Chargers responded with a sacrifice fly to even the score at 3-3.

A three-run home run off the bat of Pepper broke the game open in the 12th, giving Jefferson a 6-3 edge before winning 6-4.

SUNDAY GAME TWO – L, 8-0 (5)
The Rams struggled at the plate in game two, managing just two hits as the squad was run-ruled over five innings.

Pepper managed a single in the second inning before Taylor Maroon singled with two outs in the top of the fifth.

Dominican scored a run in the third, three in the fourth and four in the fifth to win, 8-0.

No. 8-seeded Jefferson Softball continues play on Thursday, May 3 in the CACC Tournament with a 10 a.m. game against No. 1-seeded Caldwell. The loser of that game plays again at 2 p.m. with the winning advancing to the 4 p.m. game. Action takes place from Lakewood, N.J. at Georgian Court University.
