NYACK, N.Y. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) softball team (6-10, 1-5 CACC) suffered a pair of losses at Nyack (6-15, 3-3) in a CACC doubleheader on Saturday. The Warriors took game one, 8-2 and won the second contest, 4-1.
GAME ONE – L, 8-2
Nyack opened up a 5-0 lead with one run in the first, two in the second and two in the third. Junior Madison Heno put the Rams on the board with a solo homer to left field in the fourth, her first of the year.
The Warriors upped their advantage to 8-1 with an RBI single and a two-run home run in the fifth. Senior Stephanie Pepper had the final tally for Jefferson with a long ball to left center in the seventh. Nyack frustrated the Rams' offense throughout, allowing just three hits.
GAME TWO – L, 4-1
The Warriors put the first run up again with an RBI bunt single in the second. Jefferson tied it up in the fourth when junior Emily Williams knocked in sophomore LilyAnn Yoakum with a base hit to center.
Nyack regained the lead with three runs in the fifth. The Warriors' pitching again baffled the Rams' hitters, allowing just one baserunner in the last two innings and surrendering just three hits for the game.
Jefferson Softball returns home to host West Chester for a pair of non-conference contests on Sunday, March 24 beginning at 12 p.m.
