PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) softball team (10-14, 5-5 CACC) made it four straight wins with a big doubleheader sweep of conference favorite Caldwell (9-13, 4-2 CACC) on Saturday afternoon. The Rams took the opener, 5-1 and had a 5-2 victory in the second contest. It marked Jefferson's first wins over the Cougars since the 2008 season.
GAME ONE – W, 5-1
Junior Emily Williams set the tone for the afternoon, belting a three-run homer over the fence in center field to give the Rams a 3-0 lead in the third. They added two more in the fourth on junior Madison Heno's two-run single up the middle with two outs.
Senior Stephanie Pepper frustrated the Cougars, tossing a complete game and allowing seven hits while striking out 10. Caldwell had multiple runners on three times in the first six frames but Pepper shut down the threat each time. The Cougars eventually ended the shutout bid with an RBI single in the seventh.

Jefferson jumped out to a big lead again with a four-run second inning. Senior Courtney Wensel and freshman Winnai Hoyt each had an RBI single while Williams drove in two runs with a base hit to right. The Rams increased the margin to five in the fourth on Pepper's RBI single to center.
Caldwell cut the deficit to three (5-2) with one run each in the fifth and sixth. The Cougars brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh with one out but Pepper induced a fly out before striking out the final batter to clinch the victory.
