PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) softball team (11-17, 6-8 CACC) split a twin bill with visiting Dominican (N.Y.) (12-15, 9-5 CACC) on Saturday. The Rams won the opener, 9-7 before the Chargers took game two, 3-1.
GAME ONE – W, 9-7
Jefferson started the scoring in the first. Senior Erin Maher smacked a lead-off triple to right center then came home on a groundout. Junior Emily Williams and senior Naomi Stas hit back-to-back doubles and the score was 2-0.
Junior Breck Urban had an RBI double in the third to put the Rams ahead by three. Dominican got on the board with a homer in the fourth. Jefferson posted five runs in the fourth to increase the margin to seven (8-1). Williams recorded a two-run single, Stas drove in a run with a base hit and Urban plated two with a double to left center.
In the fifth, the Chargers cut the deficit to three with four runs but the Rams got one back in the bottom half on junior Madison Heno's RBI double. Dominican brought home two runs in the sixth but Jefferson kept the Chargers off the scoreboard for the rest of the contest.
GAME TWO – L, 3-1
The Rams scored the first run again, this time on Heno's RBI base hit in the third. Dominican evened the score in the fourth before taking the lead in the sixth on an RBI single. The Chargers added an insurance run in the seventh with a home run. Dominican held Jefferson to six hits in the game.
Jefferson Softball takes a break from the conference schedule and visits East Stroudsburg on Tuesday, April 9 at 2:30 p.m.
