PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) women's basketball team (3-0) used big scoring outputs from redshirt junior Jessica Kaminski and redshirt sophomore Alynna Williams to get past the Bridgeport Purple Knights on Wednesday evening by a 64-53 final from the Gallagher Center.
Kaminski led all scorers with a game-high 19 points in the effort behind seven made field goals. The redshirt junior also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Williams was 5-of-10 from the field, 2-of-2 from behind the arc and 6-of-6 from the free-throw line for 18 points on the night.
Senior Rachel Day added 11 points for the Rams, scoring eight of her 11 in the third quarter.
In the dying seconds of the first quarter, Williams grabbed an offensive rebound for the putback as time expired to put the Rams up 14-12 after 10 minutes.
Bridgeport tied the game up at 18-18 in the early parts of the second quarter before taking the lead at 25-24. Redshirt freshman Caitlyn Cunningham made a three pointer to give Jefferson the lead once again with under four minutes to play in the half. The Rams never lost the lead for the remainder of the contest.
Day scored eight of the team's 18 third-quarter points as Jefferson held on for the midweek victory.
The difference in the game for Jefferson came from the free-throw line and behind the arc. The Rams hit 16-of-21 attempts from the charity strike compared to 5-of-13 for the Purple Nights. Jefferson also made eight three pointers versus Bridgeport's two.
Jefferson hosts Lincoln (Pa.) on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. from the Gallagher Center. The men's basketball team hosts Bentley beforehand at noon. A purchased ticket gets you into both events.
