Women’s Basketball Pulls Away From Shippensburg for 68-56 Victory to Start 5-0

PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) women's basketball team (5-0) defeated the Shippensburg Raiders (0-5) by a final of 68-56 on Tuesday evening form the Gallagher Center.

The win moves the Rams to 5-0, their best start since the 1995-96 season.

Redshirt junior Jessica Kaminski dropped a game-high 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting including 6-of-9 from the free throw line. She also had five rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Redshirt junior Erin Maher recorded 13 points, seven rebounds, five blocks and two steals.

Senior Rachel Day had nine points in the win while junior Beverly Kum and redshirt freshman Caitlyn Cunningham each had eight. Kum also grabbed seven boards.

Redshirt sophomore Alynna Williams had four points, six assists and five steals.

Jefferson had a slight two-point lead at halftime, 35-33. Kaminksi had 13 points at the break.

The difference in the game came in the fourth quarter. With the Rams leading 49-47 after 30 minutes, Jefferson limited Shippensburg to just nine points in the final quarter while scoring 19 themselves.

The Raiders shot 30.8% in the fourth while Jefferson had a balanced attack which saw six Rams score in the quarter to extend the lead. Shippensburg scored just five points over the final eight minutes of the contest while Jefferson put up 15.

The Rams forced 26 turnovers in the midweek affair and had 14 steals as a team, led by Williams and Kaminski with five and four apiece. Jefferson scored 24 of their 68 points off turnovers in the win.

Jefferson led rebounds, 41-37, including offensive rebounds, 20-10, which led to 14 second-chance points.

Jefferson Women's Basketball returns to action at East Stroudsburg on Sunday, Nov. 26 at 1 p.m.
