Women’s Basketball Opens Conference Play with Victory at Georgian Court, 80-64

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) women's basketball team (7-1, 1-0 CACC) opened up conference play on the road this Saturday afternoon in Lakewood, N.J. with an 80-64 win at Georgian Court (2-5, 0-1 CACC).

Redshirt junior Erin Maher scored a game-high 26 points in the win on 10-of-15 shooting including 5-of-8 from three-point range along with eight rebounds. She scored 17 points in the first quarter alone.

Junior transfer Beverly Kum scored 13 points on the day with nine rebounds.

Redshirt sophomore Alynna Williams also notched 13 points on the afternoon.

Senior Rachel Day recorded her first double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 11 boards.

Jefferson dominated the rebound game on the afternoon, outrebounding the Lions 45-33 including 16-5 on the offensive glass. That led to 18 second-chance points for the Rams compared to just seven for Georgian Court.

The Rams forced 17 Lion turnovers, leading to 16 points for Jefferson.

Jefferson went out to a commanding 13-point advantage after the first quarter. Maher scored 17 of the team's 27 which included going 7-of-7 from the field and hitting all three of her three-pointer attempts. The redshirt junior made the first six shots of the game for Jefferson, putting the Rams up 15-14 as the Lions kept pace early. Jefferson closed the period on a 15-point run to go up 27-14 at the end of the first.

At the end of the first half, the Rams led the Lions 49-35. Jefferson gained their largest lead of the game after a three pointer by Day to make it 49-31 with 2:28 left in the second quarter.

Jefferson held on to their first-half lead for all of the second half. Georgian Court was only able to trim the edge down to eight points towards the end of the fourth quarter before the Jefferson won by 16 as the Rams ended the game on an 8-0 run.
