ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) women's basketball team (18-2, 11-1 CACC) defeated the Dominican Chargers (6-13, 5-6 CACC) in a conference road game on Saturday afternoon by a final of 63-62 behind a game-winning layup with seconds left.
Redshirt junior Jessica Kaminski delivered the game winner and led the Rams in the victory with 17 points and 10 rebounds. The Philadelphia native made four shots and went 9-of-10 from the free-throw line.
Kaminski received the ball on a sideline inbounds play before splitting two defenders for the game-winning layup.
The Rams trailed by five at 58-53 with just over a minute left in the contest before redshirt freshman Caitlyn Cunningham hit a shot with 1:15 to play. Dominican then hit a pair of free throws before Cunningham did the same with the score now 60-57 in favor of the Chargers with 49 seconds remaining.
Redshirt sophomore Alynna Williams nailed a pair with 39 seconds on the clock to bring Jefferson within one before giving the Rams the lead with another two free throws. A Jefferson foul and two subsequent free throws gave Dominican the edge once again before the inbound play for Kaminski lifted Jefferson in the road win in the game's final seconds.
Jefferson entered the second half with a 33-28 advantage but were held to just nine points in the third which gave the Chargers control of the game until late in the fourth quarter.
Williams finished with 10 points and two steals while going 6-of-6 from the charity strike include four in the last 39 seconds of the affair.
Senior Rachel Day accounted for 14 points in the win behind 5-of-11 shooting including 4-of-8 from three-points range. With 223 career three-pointers, the senior needs six more to become the school's all-time record holder.
Jefferson went 22-of-28 from the free-throw line as a squad for 78.6%. 28 free throw attempts was a season-high for the Rams.
Jefferson Women's Basketball returns home to host Georgian Court on Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. to close out the month.
