PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) women's basketball team (22-3, 14-2 CACC) pushed past the Bloomfield Bears (13-10, 13-3 CACC) on Saturday afternoon by a final of 68-56 from the Gallagher Center.
With the first basket of the day, senior Rachel Day hit her 229th career three-pointer to become the program's all-time career leader.
Redshirt sophomore Alynna Williams finished with a game-high 22 points to go along with four rebounds and four assists.
Redshirt junior Jessica Kaminski scored 13 points with seven rebounds and five assists.
Junior Beverly Kum accounted for 12 points and seven boards.
Day finished the afternoon with 11 points and 10 rebounds with three three-pointers.
Jefferson jumped out to a 19-12 advantage at the end of the first quarter but were held to just 10 points in the second. The Rams owned a 29-27 edge at halftime as Kaminski led Jefferson with seven points at the break.
After Bloomfield tied it up 29-29 early in the third, the Rams went on a 13-3 run to take a 42-32 lead. Jefferson stretched that lead up to 13 with 1:40 left in the third before taking a 49-38 advantage into the final quarter.
Jefferson started the fourth on a quick 7-2 run to take their largest lead of the day, 16 points with 8:04 to play. The Rams won by 12 on alumni day.
Jefferson hit 23-of-58 from the field and 16-of-21 from the free-throw line. The Rams outrebounded the Bears, 50-34.
Jefferson Women's Basketball returns to action next Saturday, Feb. 17 on ESPN3 at Caldwell with a 1 p.m. start. The men follow at 3 p.m.
