Women’s Basketball Takes Down Rival Holy Family on Senior Day, 62-50

PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) women's basketball team (24-4, 16-3 CACC) celebrated senior day at the Gallagher Center on Saturday, as they acknowledged Rachel Day, Kelsey Jones, Carly Kovin and student manager Olivia Agosti before the Rams defeated the Holy Family Tigers (10-17, 9-10 CACC) by a final of 62-50 to close out the regular season.

The Rams dominated the first half as redshirt junior Jessica Kaminski started the trend with ball movement and second-chance opportunities. The Rams opened the score up to 9-0 before the Holy Family Tigers got on the board for the first time with under five minutes left in the first quarter. The Tigers were unable to break double-digits as the first quarter ended with the Rams leading, 17-9.

Redshirt freshman Caitlyn Cunningham scored immediately at the top of the second quarter with a three-pointer, 20-9. The two teams exchanged scoring possessions for the remainder of the first half as Jefferson took a 31-24 halftime score into the break. 

It was a second-half showdown as the Rams lost their lead to two consecutive three-pointers by HFU's Naiyana Sabb, making the score 36-35 with 2:35 left to play in the third quarter. A pair of free throws from Kaminski at the end of the quarter gave the Rams a 43-40 lead heading into the fourth, giving them the push they needed to stay ahead. The Rams went on to outscore the Tigers 19-10 in the fourth, setting them up for their 62-50 victory.

Kaminski finished the afternoon contest with another double-double and as the Rams' leading scorer with 16 points along with 14 rebounds and two assists.

Redshirt junior Erin Maher and Day each recorded 10 points for the Rams. Maher finished with eight rebounds and two assists while Day concluded with seven rebounds and four assists.

Kovin and Jones each started the affair for Jefferson and were on the floor when the game ended.

The Rams' defense held the Tigers to 30.0% shooting (15-of-50) and four points in the paint, forcing them out from underneath the net.

Jefferson ended the regular season with a 15-1 home record.

This was the Rams' final regular-season home game. As the No. 2 CACC South seed, they are now set to host a CACC quarterfinal game on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 5:30 p.m. against No. 3 CACC North-seeded Dominican in the Gallagher Center. The No. 2 CACC South-seeded men will host No. 3 CACC North-seeded Caldwell immediately following at 7:30 p.m.
