PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) women's basketball team (26-4) defeated the No. 1 CACC North-seeded Bloomfield Bears on Saturday afternoon in the CACC Semifinals hosted by Jefferson at the Gallagher Center by a final of 79-67.
The win advances No. 2 CACC South-seeded Jefferson to the CACC Championship game against No. 1 CACC South-seeded USciences on Sunday, March 4 at noon.
The victory also moves head coach Tom Shirley's win total at the school to 599.
Redshirt sophomore Alynna Williams scored 20 points in the effort including 15 in the first half. She also had six rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Redshirt junior Jessica Kaminski finished with 17 points to go along with five assists, four rebounds and two steals.
Senior Rachel Day notched 15 points with three three-pointers.
The Rams used a big second quarter to widen the margin and take control of the game heading into the second half.
Jefferson held an 18-15 edge at the end of the first quarter. Bloomfield made a three to begin the second before the Rams went on a 13-0 run to grab a 31-18 advantage midway through the quarter. Jefferson led at halftime, 43-27.
The two teams kept pace in the third as they both shot 50.0% from the floor. Jefferson was up by 18 as the squads went into the fourth quarter, 64-46.
Jefferson never let its lead dip below 10 points in the second half as they advanced to the finals matchup on Sunday.
In total, Jefferson shot 42.4% from the floor (25-of-59), 40.0% from three-point range (10-of-25) and 73.1% from the charity strike (19-of-26).
It marks their third trip to the conference championship affair in four years. Two years ago in the 2015-16 season, the Rams won to advance to the NCAA DII East Regionals.
