Lady Rams fall on opening day to #2 Adelphi, 21-3

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Philadelphia University women's lacrosse team started its 2012 campaign with a 21-3 loss to second-ranked Adelphi University in a non-conference match Saturday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.

Attack Taylor Peltzer led the Lady Rams (0-1) with a goal and an assist. Attacks Emily Ray and Elizabeth Marrosu also scored a goal for Philadelphia. Midfielder Melissa Styer scooped up three ground balls.

Erica Devito recorded nine points (five goals, four assists) for the Panthers. Sara Sangiorgio scored six goals, all in the first half. Felicia Mills had five draw controls.

Adelphi's Jordann Dempsey was the winning goalie after stopping one of the two shots on goal she face in 38:25. Jennifer Rojas finished out the game and made one save.

Ellen Wright made nine saves, eight in the first half, over 35:25 for Philadelphia. Kristen Moran came up with three stops.

The Lady Rams were outshot 44-6.

Philadelphia has a quick turnaround because it welcomes Post to Ravenhill Field for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener on Sunday, March 11 at noon. The Lady Rams are the preseason favorite to win the CACC.
