Lady Rams take down Wilmington (Del.) on senior day, 17-13

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Attacks Emily Ray and Taylor Peltzer, and midfielder Kalin Hodel each recorded six-point games as the Philadelphia University women's lacrosse team closed out its 2012 home slate with a 17-13 victory over Wilmington (Del.) in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match Tuesday afternoon.

Prior to the contest, the athletics department and head coach George Chis-Luca honored the team's six seniors: Caribeth Shappell, Hannah Kuranz, Nicole Lijana, Andrea Saracco, Peltzer, and Hodel.

In the match, Ray scored a game-high six goals. Peltzer notched four goals and two assists, and Hodel tallied three goals and three assists.

Shappell added three assists and seven draw controls for the Lady Rams (6-8, 5-4 CACC). She is now six points away from 200 in her career.

Saracco added a goal and five ground balls.

The Wildcats (8-5, 5-4 CACC) got three goals and two assists from Elizabeth Case. Rebekah McCurry and Jaclyn Hall each netted hat-tricks.

Philadelphia's Ellen Wright made eight saves, while Wilmington's Kaitlyn Hall recorded six stops.

After falling behind 1-0, the Lady Rams got goals from Peltzer, Hodel and Ray in a 2:35 span to grab a 3-1 advantage. The Wildcats answered the charge with four of the next six goals, including two from Case, to regain a one-goal lead at 5-4.

Philadelphia took control of the contest with five goals in the final 5:14 of the first half to take a 9-5 halftime lead. Peltzer scored twice, while Hodel, Kuranz and attack Elizaberth Marrosu added a goal each.

Ray opened the second half with back-to-back goals to push the margin to 11-5. Wilmington, with the help of two Hall goals, when on a 5-1 spurt to close within 12-10 with 14:43 to go.

Goals from Hodel, Peltzer, Ray and Marrosu pushed the lead back up to six at 16-10 and gave the Lady Rams were able to hold on from there.

Philadelphia will finish its regular season with three road games. The road trip begins on Thursday, April 19 with a 4 p.m. faceoff against Chestnut Hill.
