GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Junior attack Emily Ray (Bedminster, N.J./Bernards) scored a pair of goals as the Philadelphia University women's lacrosse team was defeated by No. 5 Adelphi 20-3 in a non-conference match Saturday afternoon on Motamed Field.
Ray, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's top scorer last season, netted her first goal of the 2013 season with 15:36 in the opening half to cut the Ram (0-2) deficit to 3-1. She struck again 3:13 into the second half with a short-handed goal. Senior Carli DiCioccio (Bordentown, N.J./Northern Burlington) assisted on the tally.
Junior midfielder Libby Nichols (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) converted a free-position shot with 14:19 to play for Philadelphia's final goal. Nichols added a team-high three ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers.
Rachel O'Brien (five goals, two assists) and Devan Crimi (four goals, three assists) both recorded seven points for the Panthers (4-0). Sara Sangiorgio added four goals and two assists.
Danielle Jaycox pitched in with five ground balls and four caused turnovers, while Jacqueline Williams contributed five draw controls.
Adelphia's Jordann Dempsey was called on to make three saves. The Panthers owned a 39-14 shot advantage.
Philadelphia travels to Chestnut Hill for a non-conference match on Tuesday, March 12 at 4 p.m.
