Women’s lacrosse fights off Georgian Court for 12-10 win

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Philadelphia University women's lacrosse team withstood a late Georgian Court rally to earn a 12-10 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory in its regular season finale Sunday afternoon.

The Rams conclude the season with a 13-4 overall record and a perfect 10-0 in the CACC. Philadelphia won the CACC southern division and will open the CACC Tournament on Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m.

The Lions go to 8-6-1 overall and 7-3 in conference play.

Freshman attack Liz Mower (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) scored four of her game-high five goals in the first half to help the Rams take a 9-2 lead. Junior midfielder Libby Nichols (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) recorded two of her three goals in the opening 30 minutes, while sophomore attack Allison Brian (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield), sophomore midfielder Lauren Hartman (Sewell, N.J./Our Lady of Mercy), and senior midfielder Ellen Wright (Salem, Va./Salem) scored once.

Georgian Court got a pair of Molly McCourt goals during a 4-0 spurt to open the second half to close the gap to 9-6.

Philadelphia stopped the charge with consecutive goals from Nichols, Mower, and Brian and regained a six-goal lead (12-6) with 5:23 left.

The Lions found the back of the net four times, three goals coming from Corinne Coyle, in the final 5:23.

Nichols finished the game with a game-high five ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Coyle had four goals for Georgian Court, while Olivia Rotunno contributed two goals and a game-high four draw controls.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kristen Moran (Walden, N.Y./Valley Central) stopped five shots for Philadelphia to earn the win. Amanda Cathcart made seven saves in a losing effort.
