Women's lacrosse pushes winning streak to 14 with 15-11 win at Mercy

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Grad student midfielder Kristen Blye (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) scored a match-high four goals as the Philadelphia University women's lacrosse team extended its winning streak to 14 with a 15-11 victory over Mercy Saturday afternoon on Mavericks Field.

Philadelphia—the sixth-ranked team in the NCAA Division II East Region Rankings—improves to 14-1 overall. Mercy is now 6-10 overall.

After the Mavericks took an early 1-0 lead on a Kristen Znaniecki goal, Philadelphia received goals from sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Seitzinger (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) and junior attack Allison Brian (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) 1:12 apart to take a 2-1 advantage at the 26:22 mark.

Mercy came back with five of the match's next six goals, including two from Kelsey Bub, to grab a 6-3 lead with 19:02 left in the half. The lone Ram goal during the Maverick run belonged to Blye on a free-position shot.

Senior midfielder Carli DiCioccio (Bordentown, N.J./Northern Burlington) buried a free-position shot at the 16:42 mark to start a 5-1 run in the Rams' favor and allowed Philadelphia to take an 8-7 lead. Blye had three of the five goals, including the tying goal at 9:06 and the go-ahead goal at 8:31.

The score remained 8-7 until Michelle Tiernan found the back of the net with 2:53 to play in the opening half.

Playing with a man-advantage thanks to a Mercy yellow card, senior midfielder Libby Nichols (Ellicott City, Md./McDonogh) converted a free-position shot 1:22 before the break to give Philadelphia a 9-8 lead.

Philadelphia opened the second half with back-to-back goals from Brian and junior attack Lauren Hartman (Sewell, N.J./Our Lady of Mercy) to extend the lead to 11-8 with 23:57 to play.

A pair of goals 16 seconds apart from Keri Watson and Michelle Tiernan allowed the Mavericks to close the gap to 11-10 at the 18:07.

The Rams controlled the final 10:37, scoring four of the match's final five goals to secure the win. Senior attack Emily Ray (Bedminster, N.J./Bernards), sophomore midfielder Katelynn Parent (Millville, N.J./Millville), DiCioccio, and Hartman recorded the Philadelphia goals.

Hartman finished the contest with two goals and three assists, while Brian recorded a hat-trick. Nichols posted one goal, two assists, seven draw controls, and four ground balls.

Nicole Augustine, Marissa Kluber, Tiernan, Znaniecki, and Bub all scored twice for the Mavericks. Kluber added a match-high six ground balls, while Nicole Kline had four draw controls.

In goal, junior Kristen Moran (Walden, N.Y./Valley Central) recorded five saves to record her 12th win of the season (12-1). Mercy's Shianne Judson took the loss in relief of Jillian Rocco. Judson made nine saves in the final 38:31, while Rocco had one save on nine shots on goal in the opening 21:29.

Philadelphia closes out the regular season with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match at Wilmington (Del.) on Tuesday, April 22 at 4:30 p.m.
