LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Samantha Ryder (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) and Courtney Shaw (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) both scored three times for the Philadelphia University women's lacrosse team in a 19-7 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) loss to Georgian Court University Tuesday afternoon on the GCU Track & Field Complex.
Philadelphia (2-5, 1-2 CACC) fell behind 7-0 in the opening 15 minutes of the contest. Arianna Quinlan scored three goals and assisted on two other goals for Georgian Court during the surge.
After Ryder got the Rams on the board with an unassisted goal at the 14:48 mark, the Lions tacked on another two goals to open up a 9-1 lead. Isabella DiGnazio (Pittsburgh, Pa./Peters Twp.) scored a free-point goal with 9:06 left in the half to start a run of three straight Ram goals that closed the gap to 9-4. Ryder and Shaw added the other two goals.
The Rams trailed at the half 12-4 after being outshot 22-13.
Shaw and Ryder scored early in the second half to bring Philadelphia within 13-6. Georgian Court ended the game scoring six of the final seven goals.
Sarah von Lange (Marriotsville, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) had three caused turnovers, three draw controls, and two ground balls. Shaw added four draw controls, while DiGnazio posted three ground balls.
Quinlan finished the match with six goals, three assists, three ground balls, and three draw controls. Samantha Fernandez registered five goals, three assists, and five draw controls.
Victoria Raimondi (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) recorded 14 saves and five ground balls, both career highs, in the Philadelphia net. The Lions' Amber Neumann stopped 10 shots.
Georgian Court ended the match with a 35-27 shot advantage.
Philadelphia returns to Ravenhill Field on Wednesday, April 5 to host Kutztown University in a non-conference match at 4:30 p.m.
