Raimondi, DiGnazio lead women's lacrosse past Kutztown

PHILADELPHIA – Philadelphia University's Victoria Raimondi (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) stopped a career-high 19 shots and Isabella DiGnazio (Pittsburgh, Pa./Peters Twp.) scored a game-high four goals to lead the women's lacrosse team to a 13-7 victory over Kutztown University Wednesday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.

The Rams (3-5) dominated the opening 30 minutes of play to get out to a 6-1 halftime advantage.

Alyssa Matthews (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) got the scoring started with an unassisted goal just 3:15 into the match. After 13 minutes passed with no scoring, Kathryn Avanzato (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) converted a free-position shot to double the Philadelphia advantage. Erin Eckert (Warrington, Pa./Archbishop Wood) made it a 3-0 contest with the first of her two goals at 9:35.

Kutztown's Sarah Gabriele put a brief end to the Philadelphia momentum, closing the gap to 3-1 just 32 seconds after Eckert's goal.

Philadelphia closed out the half with three goals over the final 5:35 to lead by five. DiGnazio notched her first goal of the afternoon on a free-position shot. Samantha Ryder (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) and Avanzato recorded the final two goals of the half 26 seconds apart. Eckert picked up an assist on Ryder's goal, while Sarah von Lange (Marriottsville, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) assisted Avanzato's second goal.

Raimondi finished the first half with 10 saves.

DiGnazio scored 1:33 into the second half to give Philadelphia a match-high six-goal advantage. Then, Kutztown (5-5) got back into the match with four goals in a four-minute span to close the margin to 7-5. Lauren Huggins had two of the four Golden Bear goals.

Eckert settled Philadelphia down as she scored a free-position goal at 22:21 to allow the Rams to regain a three-goal cushion. The goal was the start of a 6-2 surge to end the game. In addition to Eckert's goal, Courtney Shaw (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) and DiGnazio scored twice and Laura Dunne (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) added one.

Gabriele had two goals, one assist, and nine draw controls to lead Kutztown. Makayla Bowman also had two goals. Abby Cox stopped 11 shots in the Golden Bear net.

Philadelphia returns to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on Saturday, April 8 with a trip to Nyack. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
