KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) women's lacrosse team (0-1) fell to the Kutztown Golden Bears (2-0) by a final of 19-6 to begin the 2018 season on the road at Andre Reed Stadium in Kutztown, Pa.
The Golden Bears jumped out to a 6-0 advantage midway through the first half. Sophomore Erin Eckert then scored back-to-back goals to pull the Rams within four, 6-2. Kutztown added three goals in the final 10 minutes of the half to take a 9-2 lead into the break.
Eckert added her third goal of the game with 26:53 left in the second half, 11-3.
Sophomore Sarah von Lange scored a free-position goal with 22:22 to play in the contest. Junior Laura Dunne also recorded a goal in the game while freshman Lexi Patania tallied her first career goal, coming as the sixth and final Jefferson goal with 1:01 left in the second half, 18-6.
Senior Samantha Ryder tied her career high with 12 draw controls in the loss. Jefferson led draw controls, 15-11, on the afternoon.
Sullivan and Avanzato led the squad with three shots on goal each.
Senior Liz Wissman posted game highs with four ground balls and three caused turnovers on Saturday. In total, five Rams had at least two caused turnovers.
Jefferson Women's Lacrosse returns to action on Thursday, March 1 at West Chester with a 4 p.m. start.
