Women’s Lacrosse Drops Close Midweek Road Affair at Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) women's lacrosse team (0-3) dropped a close midweek game on the road to the Shippensburg Raiders (3-1) on Wednesday evening by a final of 11-9.

Wednesday's game was originally scheduled to be played at home before unplayable field conditions at Ravenhill Field moved the game to Shippensburg, Pa.

Sophomore Sarah von Lange scored a career- and game-high five goals in the loss while freshman Camryn Sullivan also notched a hat trick with the first three goals of her young career. Senior Kathryn Avanzato had two assists in the contest.

Senior Liz Wissmann (6) and freshman Erin Campbell (5) led the Rams in groundballs. Campbell, junior Katie Gallivan and senior Samantha Ryder each caused three turnovers. Ryder also grabbed four draw controls to lead Jefferson including one at the end of the first half which turned into an assist.

Shippensburg jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Jefferson goals from von Lange and Sullivan tied it up with 19:48 to play in the first half. The Raiders scored four of the next five goals to take a 6-3 advantage as von Lange notched her second of the day.

Jefferson then scored a free-position goal with nine seconds to play in the half off the stick of junior Laura Dunne. Ryder won the ensuing draw control and dished it off to Sullivan for her second goal with one second left before halftime to put the Rams within striking distance, 6-5.

Sullivan completed her hat trick early in the second half to even the score at 6-6. A three-goal run gave the Raiders a 9-6 edge before von Lange recorded her third of the day with 13:19 on the clock.

von Lange scored her fourth of the game to get Jefferson back within one with 10:55 to play in regulation, 9-8.

Shippensburg went back up by two, 10-8, before von Lange scored her career-high fifth of the day with 4:51 to play, 10-9. Both her five goals and five points came as career bests.

The Raiders responded with an 11th and final goal with just over two minutes remaining to win, 11-9.

Sophomore Victoria Raimondi (L, 0-1) saw action in goal for the first time in 2018, making 10 saves on 21 shots across 60 minutes.

Jefferson Women's Lacrosse now travels to take on Mercy on Saturday, March 17 at 7 p.m. The game will be played on the campus of Pace University in Pleasantville, N.Y.
