Women’s Lacrosse Drops Thursday Nonconference Affair to No. 18 NYIT

PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) women's lacrosse team (1-5) dropped a nonconference affair to the No. 18 NYIT Bears (8-2) on Thursday afternoon from Ravenhill Field by a final of 18-4.

The nationally-ranked Bears overpowered the Rams for most of the game. NYIT led 13-0 at halftime before going up 18-0.

Jefferson scored its four goals in the last 12 minutes of regulation. Junior Laura Dunne converted a free-position shot to put the Rams on the board with 11:41 to play.

Freshman Camryn Sullivan and sophomore Sarah von Lange then each scored the 10th goals of their respective seasons with 8:35 and 5:07 to play.

Senior Kathryn Avanzato notched her seventh of the campaign with 1:21 on the clock on a free-position shot, 18-4.

Senior Samantha Ryder led Jefferson with three shots and five draw controls. Avanzato had two shots, both on target.

Senior Liz Wissmann had a team-high three groundballs while causing one turnover. Sarah von Lange forced two NYIT turnovers to top the Rams.

The women return to action on Saturday, March 31 with another nonconference game against Queens (N.Y.) from Ravenhill Field at noon.
