BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) women's lacrosse team (0-1) dropped its season opener at Bloomsburg (3-0), 13-3 on Friday.
The Huskies started strong, recording the first eight goals of the contest over the opening 20 minutes. Junior Erin Eckert got the Rams on the board at the 4:56 mark with an assist from sophomore Lauren Najarian. Bloomsburg added one more goal before halftime to go ahead 9-1.
In the second half, the Huskies netted four goals in a row to increase the advantage to 13-1. Sophomore Erin Campbell hit the back of the net for Jefferson with a free position goal with 6:45 left. Freshman Kanha Stockford picked up her first collegiate goal on a free position tally at 1:20 to end the scoring.
Campbell led the Rams with 11 shots, seven on goal. Campbell, freshman Lilly Kull and junior Anabelle DiStefano gathered four ground balls apiece. Campbell and junior Sarah von Lange each controlled four draws while Campbell and senior Chanel D'Angelo caused three turnovers apiece. Freshman Kelsey Kaplowitz stopped seven shots in the Jefferson cage.
Jefferson Women's Lacrosse has its home opener scheduled for Sunday, March 10 at 12:30 p.m. versus Molloy. The two teams last met in the 2011 season, with the Lions earning a 20-3 home victory.
