Women's Lacrosse Finishes Regular Season With Win over Dominican (N.Y.), CACC Tournament Next

PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) women's lacrosse team (9-5, 8-1 CACC) ended the regular season with a 17-12 triumph over visiting Dominican (N.Y.) (5-9, 5-4 CACC) on Saturday afternoon.

GAMEPLAY
The teams were tied at one through the opening seven minutes. Freshman Kanha Stockford started a 5-0 run for the Rams at the 22:47 mark. Stockford and junior Erin Eckert each scored twice in the rally. The second goal for Eckert marked the 100th point of her career. After the Chargers cut the deficit to four (6-2), Jefferson netted three straight goals for a 9-2 lead. Stockford had two of the three markers. Dominican tallied two of the next three before the Rams ended the period with three goals in a row to take a 13-4 lead into halftime. Jefferson had a commanding 21-8 advantage in shots.

The two squads were even at three goals apiece in the first 15 minutes and the Rams were ahead 16-7. The Chargers then fought back with five of the last six tallies to get within five (17-12) with 3:17 remaining. Dominican won the ensuing draw but junior Anabelle DiStefano caused a turnover. Sophomore Erin Campbell also had a caused turnover in the final minutes and Jefferson did not allow another shot in clinching the win.

CACC TOURNAMENT
The Rams are the second seed in the CACC Tournament. They will play the winner of the first-round game between third-seeded Wilmington (Del.) and sixth-seeded Chestnut Hill in the semifinals on Friday, May 3 at 3 p.m. at Georgian Court. Georgian Court is the top seed and will play the winner of fourth-seeded Dominican (N.Y.) and fifth-seeded Caldwell in the semifinals.
