SPARKS, Md. – The Thomas Jefferson University women's lacrosse team (0-4) was edged by Bridgeport (5-1), 14-13, in overtime on Wednesday at the US Lacrosse Complex.
The Purple Knights got the first two goals of the game but the Rams responded with tallies from seniors Sarah von Lange and Erin Eckert to even the score. The teams alternated goals three times bringing the score to five apiece with 6:59 left in the first half. Bridgeport netted three in a row to take an 8-5 lead before freshman Erin Avanzato got Jefferson within two (8-6) before halftime.
UB opened the scoring in the second half to make it 9-6. The Rams countered with four straight goals to take their first lead of the game, 10-9, with 13:21 to go. Avanzato potted a free position goal, von Lange hit the net twice and Eckert picked up her second of the contest. The Purple Knights tallied three of the next four to go in front, 12-11, with 5:08 remaining.
Avanzato's third marker of the day evened the score at 12 (1:55) before Bridgeport took the lead again at 1:25. With time running out, Jefferson drew a free position attempt and freshman Ellie Lefton converted with just three seconds on the clock to force overtime. However, the Rams never had an opportunity to possess the ball in the extra session and the Purple Knights won on a free position goal at the 4:52 mark.

- Jefferson had a 38-24 advantage in shots.
- The Rams picked up 12 ground balls compared to seven for Bridgeport.
- Jefferson was 17-for-19 on clear attempts.
The Rams travel to Molloy on Saturday, March 14 for a 12 p.m. game.
