Women’s rowing advances three boats to day two of the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta

PHILADELPHIA – Three Philadelphia University women's rowing teams successfully advanced to the second day of competition at the 2015 Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta on Friday on the banks of the Schuylkill River.

The women's varsity eight raced twice to earn a place in the grand final for the Henry Backe Trophy. In the team's opening race, Philadelphia posted a fourth-place finish in heat two with a time of 7:13.900 to go to the repechage round. The Rams came back in the afternoon to place fourth in the repechage race, after completing the 2-kilometer course in 7:27.558, to qualify for the final.

The team will occupy lane six in the final—against Nova Southeastern, Central Oklahoma, Barry, Mercyhurst, and Humboldt State—at 4:03 p.m.

The novice four team is in the semifinal round of its competition with a third-place time of 8:40.641 in heat one of the preliminary round. Philadelphia will compete in semifinal three at 7:33 a.m. The Rams will be in lane one and race against Grand Valley State, Clemson, Dayton, Bowdoin, and Lafaytte. The top two teams in the heat qualify for the final.

The varsity four will be in a repechage race on Saturday after a third place showing with a time of 7:41.183. The repechage race, which includes Rollins, Merrimack, Mercyhurst, Franklin & Marshall, and Nova Southeastern, is slated for 9:50 a.m. The top four boats in the race make the final.

The varsity pair competed in the heat stage, finishing fifth in heat one with a time of 9:08.391.
