QUAKERTOWN, Pa. – The Philadelphia University women's rowing team turned in a strong showing against Lehigh University and Lafayette College in the River Cup on Saturday on Lake Nockamixon.
In the varsity eight event, Philadelphia finished in second place after posting a time of 8 minutes, 26.03 seconds against a strong headwind. Lehigh won the race with a time of 8:13.00. The Rams finished nearly eight seconds ahead of Lafayette—who had a time of 8:33.99.
Philadelphia also claimed second place in the novice eight race, crossing the finish line in 8:32.15. Lehigh had the winning time of 8:13.00, but Philadelphia was comfortably ahead of Lafayette (8:45.59).
The Rams and Mountain Hawks were head-to-head in a battle of second varsity eight boats. Lehigh had a time of 8:46.16, while Philadelphia had the runner-up time of 9:03.05.
Philadelphia finished in third place in the varsity four and novice four races.
The Rams return to the water to compete in the Knecht Cup on April 8-9 on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J.
