Women’s Rowing Opens Fall on the Schuylkill at the Navy Day Regatta

PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) women's rowing team will be racing this Saturday, Oct. 14 at the Navy Day Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. Races will start at 8:40 a.m. but the Jefferson women's rowing first event will start at 10:04 a.m.

Entered in five events, Jefferson Rowing will be looking to start the season off strong. Women's Open/Collegiate 4+, Women's Collegiate Frosh/Novice 8+, Women's Collegiate JV 8+, Women's Open/Collegiate 8+, and Women's Collegiate Frosh/Novice 4+. Each event will begin at 10:04 a.m., 10:32 a.m., 11:04 a.m., 1:08 p.m., and 1:38 p.m. respectively.  

The Navy Day Regatta will be the first regatta of the fall season for the women. At the regatta will be over 100 clubs competing. Situated in between Interstate 76 and Kelly Drive, the race will start at the Twin Bridges and finish, passing underneath Girard Avenue Bridge. The event is hosted by St. Joseph's University.

The women competed in a scrimmage at Lehigh University on Lake Nockamixon in Bethlehem, Pa. Racing against St. Joseph's, Villanova, and Lehigh Universities, Jefferson took third with their varsity eight boat and eighth in their second varsity eight in the 11-boat, 3,800-meter race.

The Jefferson Rams will be back in action for a weekend at the Head of Charles Regatta, on Charles River in Boston, Mass. Oct. 21-22 will be the 53rd Head of Charles Regatta in which will have over 60 events.
