West Chester outlasts women’s soccer, 1-0

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Melissa McKeary's goal in the opening minute was the difference as the Philadelphia University women's soccer team fell in its regular-season finale to visiting West Chester University, 1-0, Wednesday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.

Philadelphia wraps up the regular season with a record of 14-2-2.  The loss snaps the Lady Rams' 15-game unbeaten streak.

The Lady Rams are the top seed for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference championship tournament. They open the tournament Tuesday, Nov. 1 with a 2 p.m. against a still-to-be-determined opponent at Ravenhill Field.

McKeary scored on a Philadelphia turnover at the edge of the penalty area. Her shot, which came 56 seconds into the game, found the right side of the net.

The Lady Rams' best chance to equalize the match came in the 26th minute. Trisha Sileo took a shot from inside the penalty area, however, West Chester's Shannon Fedyk dove to her right and kept Philadelphia scoreless.

Philadelphia keeper Kelli Kowalewski made four saves, while Fedyk finished the match with two saves. West Chester (12-2-4) owned a 14-6 shot advantage.
