Women's soccer picked second in CACC preseason coaches poll

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The two-time reigning and defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) champion Philadelphia University women's soccer team was selected second in the 2016 CACC Preseason Coaches Poll that was released by the conference office Tuesday.

Philadelphia—who garnered 144 points and three of the 13 first-place votes—brings back 22 players from last year's conference championship winning squad. The Rams finished 2015 with a 10-9-3 overall record and was 7-4-1 against the CACC in be the sixth seed in the conference tournament. After winning the CACC title, Philadelphia advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history after getting by the College of Saint Rose on penalty kicks in the first round.

The Rams were one of the best defensive teams in the CACC, ranking second in the conference in goals against average (0.65), goals allowed (15), and shutouts (11), and third in saves (107). Philadelphia was ranked 23th nationally in goals against average.

Megan Sullivan (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) scored two goals last season, both match winners, is the team's top returning scorer. Amy Heller (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy), Talia Marano (Jeffersonville, Pa./Pope John Paul II), and Alex Reyes (Vineland, N.J./Vineland) also found the back of the net in 2015 and will be back in 2016.

In goal, Erin Tinneny (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) made five starts during her freshman season and had a 3-1-0 record with a 0.25 goals against average, 13 saves, and a .929 save percentage. She also recorded two shutouts.

The 2015 CACC regular season champion Georgian Court took the top spot in the preseason poll with 156 points and five first-place votes. Holy Family was tabbed for the third position after garnering 141 points and three first-place votes. Caldwell is fourth with 124 points and one first-place vote.

Post (121 points), Wilmington (118), Felician (96), and Chestnut Hill (66) were placed in positions four through eight, respectively. Wilmington picked up the final first-place vote. Goldey-Beacom (58), Nyack (55), Dominican (N.Y.) (39), Bloomfield (36), and Concordia (N.Y.) (28) round out the poll.

Philadelphia opens the 2016 season on Thursday, Sept. 1 with a CACC clash at Holy Family starting at 4 p.m.
