Ulmer, Messner lead women's soccer to 1-0 win at Concordia (N.Y.)

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Forward Mary Kate Ulmer (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) provided the offense while goalkeeper Deanna Messner (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) recorded a shutout as the Philadelphia University women's soccer team picked up a 1-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory at Concordia (N.Y.) Saturday afternoon.

Ulmer broke the scoreless deadlock at the match's 66:07 mark with her third goal of 2016, tying her for the team lead with Alex Reyes (Vineland, N.J./Vineland). Alexa Karakitsios () played a long ball from midfield over the top of the Concordia defense. Ulmer tracked the pass down, took a couple of touches, and shot the ball pass Stephanie Wilczynski (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek)--who was leaning the wrong way--for the goal.

Despite just the one goal, Philadelphia (4-5-1, 3-2-1 CACC) turned in one of its best offensive performances of the season as the Rams recorded season highs in shots (21) and corner kicks (9).

Messner did a solid job in the Philadelphia goal, making five saves for her third shutout of the season.

Wilczynski had nine saves for Concordia (2-8-0, 1-7-0 CACC), six coming in the opening 45 minutes.

Philadelphia's next match will come on Monday, October 10 with a CACC contest against Dominican (N.Y.) at 3 p.m. on Ravenhill Field.
