WATERBURY, Conn. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) women's soccer team (2-1, 1-0 CACC) defeated the Post Eagles (0-4, 0-1 CACC) in overtime from Connecticut this afternoon. Junior Brooke Haden scored the game-winning goal for the Rams just over six minutes into the first overtime period.
Post struck first in the Saturday matinee. Katharina Mertz converted a penalty kick in the 27th minute to put the Eagles up 1-0.
In the 43rd minute, Jefferson found the equalizer just before halftime when sophomore Jessica Monteleone scored an unassisted goal.
After a scoreless second half that saw the Rams outshot the Eagles 12-8 in the final 45 minutes of regulation, the two teams went to overtime.
Haden scored the game winner in the 97th minute to give Jefferson the victory in Waterbury, Conn. as she took a low shot to the left side.
The Rams outshot Post, 18-10, overall as Jefferson took the only shot in overtime.
Junior keeper Erin Tinneny made three saves as she faced four Eagle shots on goal.
Jefferson returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at LIU Post. Action starts at 4 p.m.
