PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) women's soccer team (9-8-0) dropped a Friday afternoon nonconference match to the Molloy Lions (7-7-2) by a final of 4-1 from Ravenhill Field to close out the regular-season slate. The Rams now travel to Goldey-Beacom for a CACC Quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m.
Molloy dominated the first half of action on Friday, outshooting Jefferson 11-1 in the first 45 minutes. The Lions took a 2-0 lead into halftime after goals in the 6th minute by Dana Poetzsch and the 11th by Katlyn Merino to give Molloy the early lead.
The Lions added a third goal at the beginning of the second half in the 48th minute from Amy D'Eloia.
Jefferson responded in the 67th minute for their first goal. Sophomore Dena Noiseux and freshman Sarah Patrignani were able behind the Molloy keeper. After a few touches from each player, it was Noiseux who came away with the goal, her seventh of the season, while Patrignani grabbed the assist on the play.
Senior Amy Heller had some scoring chances for the Rams including a ball she headed off the crossbar in the 69th minute which would have gotten the Rams within two. The game also came as Heller's final appearance at Ravenhill Field as a graduating senior.
Molloy added a fourth goal in the 82nd minute from Lauren Marinello after she was able to get behind the Jefferson keeper, 4-1.
Freshman Danielle Samson played the first 60 minutes in goal for Jefferson, making six saves before fellow freshman Arielle Marcum played the final 30 minutes. In a different role, typical starting goalkeeper Erin Tinneny came on as a reserve defender for seven minutes in the second half.
The No. 5-seeded Rams now travel to No. 4-seeded Goldey-Beacom for a CACC Quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m.
