PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) women's soccer team (0-2-0) dropped its conference opener on the road to the Holy Family Tigers (2-0-0) from Tiger Field in Philadelphia, Pa. by a final of 2-1.
Holy Family struck first in the contest as Mackenzie Weyers assisted on a goal by the Tigers' Jaqueline Ziegler in the 10th minute.
Jefferson found the back of the net for the first time of the season in the 35th minute when junior Dena Noiseux scored the first-half equalizer. Freshman Ava Albergo grabbed the assist on the play, her first collegiate point.
With the score tied 1-1 at the half, Holy Family had a slight 7-4 on shots and corner kicks, 3-1.
The Tigers went ahead six minutes into the second half when Bree Rock scored on a play from Alyssa Christiansen in the 52nd minute.
Jefferson had some late chances with three of their four second-half shots coming late. Junior Erin Sullivan had a shot go wide in the 64th minute while freshman Sarah Cianciola and junior Hannah Glass had back-to-back shots saved right around the 70th minute.
In total, Holy Family led shots, 12-8, and corner kicks, 4-1.
Jefferson Women's Soccer returns home to host Dominican in a CACC matchup on Saturday, Sept. 8 from Ravenhill Field. Action starts at noon.
