Women’s Soccer Suffers Heartbreaking 2OT Conference Loss at Nyack

NYACK, N.Y. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) women's soccer team (1-3-0, 1-2-0 CACC) suffered a tough conference loss in double overtime to the Nyack Warriors (1-3-1, 1-1-1 CACC) from Moseley Field in Nyack, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon by a final of 3-2.

Jefferson managed 11 shots in the first half before scoring the first goal of the match in the 70th minute when junior Emily Discavage played a cross into the lower left corner on a pass from senior Morgan Foster to put the Rams up 1-0.

Nyack responded in the 72nd minute on a penalty kick to even the score.

Just five more minutes passed before Jefferson went up 2-1 when freshman Kelsey Butler scored her first collegiate goal. Senior Brooke Haden was credited with the assist on the play.

With seven minutes left in regulation, the Warriors converted a corner opportunity to tie up the game once again, sending the game to overtime.

Jefferson took two shots to Nyack's one in the first overtime. A foul by Jefferson in the 105th minute in 2OT led to a free kick by the Warriors. Nyack's Marie Vargas converted the opportunity to give the Warriors the win.

In total, the Rams outshot Nyack, 19-8. Jefferson also earned 13 corner kicks to Nyack's three.

Jefferson Women's Soccer returns to action on the road Tuesday, Sept. 18 at Goldey-Beacom. Action begins at 3 p.m.
